5th Grade Band
This is the beginning band in Elmwood. Students will meet 2-3 times a week in the first semester, then 5 days a week in the second semester. In their time in the 5th grade band a student will learn the basics of playing their chosen instrument, the fundamentals of counting, as well as basic ensemble techniques. The 5th grade band works in book 1 of Traditions of Excellence and will participate in three concerts throughout the year.

6th Grade Band
The second year of band at Elmwood sees an increase in the number of weekly rehearsals, performances, and rigor. Students in the 6th grade band can expect to finish book 1 of Traditions of Excellence in the first semester and start to work on sheet music. The second semester brings the students into book 2 of Traditions of Excellence as well as participation in the IESA Solo and Ensemble contest. The 6th grade band performs in a minimum of 4 concerts throughout the year.

Junior High Band
The third and fourth year of bands in Elmwood will see the student musician continue to learn about their instrument through concert literature. The Junior High Band performs a minimum of 8 times throughout the year; including at least one band festival, solo and ensemble contest, and the Elmwood Fall Festival parade. Students may also opt to audition for the IMEA District 2 Junior band.
The third and fourth year of bands in Elmwood will see the student musician continue to learn about their instrument through concert literature. The Junior High Band performs a minimum of 8 times throughout the year; including at least one band festival, solo and ensemble contest, and the Elmwood Fall Festival parade. Students may also opt to audition for the IMEA District 2 Junior band.
High School Band
The High School band is the premiere instrumental ensemble in Elmwood. Members of the High School Band make up the Marching Band for home football games and the Pep band which plays for home basketball games. Throughout the year students in the High School Band may perform up to 35 times including: home football and basketball games, four concert performances, three parades, 2-3 band festivals, solo and ensemble contest, and the IMEA District 2 Festival. The literature that the High School Band performs is rigorous and challenging to the musicians.
